1931 to 2012

I was looking back at the days of old and doing a bit of reading on the history of triathlon and where my sport really came from, in doing so I found myself in France in the 1920′s. doing an obstacle course, I dug a little deeper and came across the best triathlon video (go on, click it!) of all time from 1931. There is some fantastic archive of Video’s in www.britishpathe.com you could spend hours going trawling the achieves

Happy Christmas

A huge thank you to all my sponsors and people who have supported and help me during 2011. The year was a real struggle but it is over now and I am looking forward to 2012 and getting back to winning ways again. Have a great Christmas everybody

14 to 1, 2 weeks in a day

14 days to christmas eve all in one, I have been not been feeling the christmas cheer in Spain, 18 degrees and christmas songs don’t really go hand in hand with the sun. I have do decided to put the full run down from 14-1 in my christmas songs list here all in one post. If this was an advent calender it would be like opening 15 days in a row and eating all the chocolates inside. nom nom nomnoms.

15days

Joni Mitchell. I used to listen this song in work once upon a time. I was working in Australia it was 30+ degrees outside in December and they were playing christmas songs in the shops. It was wrong, so wrong when you are used to crap weather in winter and you are actually dreaming of a white christmas. Some people are never happy, always have a moan. This song does being back good memories of my time in Sydney.

16 days

In spain right now on a bit of a training camp with the boys and girl(Aileen) of Triathlon Ireland. We have some guests with us too, a few runners a few cyclists, A very nice and refreshing break from the norm.

17 days to go

30 years ago to the day(8th of December) that John Lennon was shot.

Wham only 18 days to go

When I hear this song I know it is almost christmas, I am not ashamed to say that this is my favourite christmas song of all time. I think it was the video that did won me over. 1984 the log cabin, snow, beautiful people, That girl (slut) upsetting George by running off with some other guy after he had given her his heart. I think we obviously point the finger at her for turning George gay. It is a great song and would you believe never made it to number 1. It was kept off the top of the charts by Band Aid with Do they know its christmas time.

19 days to go

A depressing christmas song. I am a sucker for depressing songs. Christmas is not a happy time for everybody. This song is for all those who don’t like christmas and for those who see it as just another day of the year.

20 days to go, budget day

The old christmas songs are the best and that is why you keep hearing them year after year on the radio, Slade, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole. The royalties from these songs being played year after year every december must really help keep their accountants busy with these cash cow’s. As for the modern Christmas songs, I’m not so sure, east 17 stay? sure they just threw in a load of bells to give it a christmas feel, in the words of Ross O’Carroll Kelly “And don’t tell me it’s got sleigh bells on it. Sorcha’s granny puts sleigh bells on her dog in December – doesn’t make him a Christmas song”.Poor attempt. Spice girls, 2 become one, with its safe sex message, let it die a death and be forgotten. I see these as attempts by record labels to cash in that Christmas sucker market. If you are going to support any Christmas song make sure it is a charity one. Like Band Aid and other more recent charity singles. Christmas is about giving and helping one another.
